Selection of names for Biju Patnaik State Sports Awards of the Year created a flutter on Saturday. According to unconfirmed sources, the selection committee recommended names of recipients of the awards in four categories at its meeting in Cuttack.
Young chess champion Padmini Rout and former international woman high-jumper Usha Mishra were selected as the Sportsperson and Life-time Achiever of the Year respectively.
Chitta Ranjan Mohapatra (athletics) and Nanda Kishore Patnaik (women`s football) were chosen as the joint-winners of the year`s coach award. The Sports Journalist Award went to Qadar Khan.
The recommendations were sent to the State Sports Department for approval.
