Odisha trounced Kerala by an innings and 12 runs on the last day of their four-day All-India Vijay Merchant Trophy (U-16) pre-quarterfinal match at Mumbai today. In the quarterfinals Odisha will take on Baroda at Mumbai from Jan 12 to 15.
Four players made notable contributions for Odisha’s thumping win. Captain Subham Nayak bagged five wickets in the first innings and nine wickets in the match. Fellow spinner Harshit Rathor scalped five wickets in the second innings and eight in the match. In the batting department, opener Satyajit Sabat scored a century (111 off 288 balls, 13x4, 2x6), while wicket-keeper Subrat Samal notched up a half-century (58 of 201 balls, 10x4).
Put into bat, Kerala lost their last seven wickets for 70 runs to be dismissed for 186 in the first innings. In reply, Odisha compiled a healthy total of 323 to take a lead of 137 runs. The batting performance of Kerala one again turned out to be disappointing as they were skittled out for 125.
