Tamil Nadu Cricket Association (TNCA) President XI beat Odisha by 141 runs their two-day Group A match of the Kalpathi AGS Buchi Babu All-India Cricket Tournament at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai today. In reply to a huge total of 441 for five by TNCA President XI, Odisha were restricted to 300 for eight in the stipulated 90 overs.
Electing to bat, the home team rode on a ton each by captain B Indrajith, R Sathish and Kaushik Gandhi to grab the day-one honours. The match was evenly poised till the 20th over with TNCA President XI making 78 for three. But thereafter it was run deluge for the home team as captain Indrajith (127 off 166b, 7x4, 2x6), Gandhi (100 off 169, 11x4) and Sathish (102* off 70, 8x4, 3x6) batted with aggression.
Especially a 187-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Indrajith and Gandhi put the TNCA side in a commanding position. However, experienced Odisha pacer Basant Mohanty proved his worth amidst the run riot, bagging two wickets for 59 runs (Economy 3.51). New wicketkeeper P Roshan Kumar Rao also performed well, taking three catches.
In reply, Odisha got off to an enthusiastic start with openers Girija Rout and Natraj Behera stitching together 110 runs for the first wicket. After the departure of Behera, who hit 66 (99b, 10x4, 1-x), Rout added another 61 run for the secnd wicket with vice-capain Govind Poddar. But after the dismissal of Poddar, Odisha lost their fighting spirit and contended themselves with some batting practice.
In-form Rout, who hit a majestic 162 not out against Himachal Pradesh in the Thimmappiah Memorial Tournament earlier this month at Bangalore, once again was the top scorer for Odisha with 198-ball 95, which included 10 boundaries. Aravind Singh was another successful Odisha batsman, contributing 39 runs. Left-arm spinner Rahil Shah was the most successful bowler for the winners, bagging six wickets for 98 runs.
