Rahul Behera bagged a double by winning both the under-16 boys singles and doubles titles in the Gurukul All-Odisha Open Junior Tennis Tournament, which was organised by Gurukul Tennis Academy at Gurukul Resorts, Mendhshal, near Bhubaneswar from October 14 to 16, 2018.
A total of 65 players participated in the tournament, which carried a total prize fund of Rs 22,000. The tournament featured competition four singles and two doubles events for boys and girls. Lalit Tudu and Aahan won the under-12 boys and girls singles titles, while the boys doubles crown in this age group went to Subhranil Barman and Aditae Jadon. In under-16 age group, Akriti emerged girls’ singles champion.
Renowned cardiologist Dr Pratap Kumar Pradhan gave away the prizes at the closing ceremony. Jiten Kumar Nath, Director, JK College of Banking; Gurukul Tennis Academy Director Santosh Kumar Mallik and leading Odisha tennis player Chinmay Pradhan were present on the occasion.
RESULTS:
Boys U-12 Singles: Lalit Tudu beat Akshant Beuria 9-1.
Girls U-12 Singles: Aahan beat N Vaishnavi 9-2.
Boys U-12 Doubles: Subhranil Barman-Aditae Jadon beat Kamlesh Rath-Aniket Sahoo 8-5.
Boys U-16 Singles: Rahul Behera beat Sangram Kumar Patra 9-8 (tiebreak 7-5).
Girls U-16 Singles: Riya Mardaraj beat Akriti Acharya 9-1.
Boys U-16 Doubles: Rahul Behera-Sangram Patra beat Balabhadra Behera-Aditya Mohapatra 8-4.
