Pravanjan Mullick and BBCC Mohapatra scored a century each against Assam in their truncated four-day Ranji Trophy Elite Group-B match, which ended in a draw on the penultimate day at North-East Frontier Railway Stadium in Guwahati today. However, host Assam pocked three points by virtue of taking first-innings lead, while Orissa drew blank.
Opting to bat after skipper Shiv Sundar was won the toss, Orissa compiled a substantial total of 347, thanks to knocks of 129 (143 balls, 17x4, 2x6) by Mullick and 107 (139 balls, 14x4, 4x6) by Mohapatra. During his knock, Mullick passed 3500 runs in first-class cricket. Skipper Das and pacer Debasis Mohanty were other notable scorers with 31 and 30 respectively.
In reply, Assam rode on a century each by Manoj Joglekar (103) and Kiran Powar (111) to make 364 for seven at stumps on the third day. No play was possible on the final day due to bad weather. Among Orissa bowlers, Ajay Barik was most successful, taking four wickets for 72 runs.
