Unbeaten century by Pravanjan Mullick and impressive bowling by Debasis Mohanty and Bipin Singh powered Orissa to an innings and 99-run win over Goa on the last day of their four-day Ranji Trophy Plate Group-B match at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack today.
This was overall 44th win, 21st by innings margin in a total of 194 Ranji Trophy matches for Orissa and first win in only match against Goa. The emphatic win fetched Orissa five points, while Goa drew blank. Host asserted complete supremacy throughout the match after captain Sanjay Raul won the toss and decided to bat first.
Despite an unbeaten century by Swapnil Asnodkar, Goa were bowled out for 235 with Debasis Mohanty and Bipin Singh bagging five and three wickets respectively for Orissa. In replay, host Orissa declared at 466 for eight to take a first-innings lead of 231 runs.
Mullick anchored the Orissa innings with an unbeaten 134 (163 balls, 14x4, 1x6) after BBCC Mohapatra (83, 136b, 10x4, 2x6) and Subrat Behera (87, 331b, 8x4) gave the home team a flying start, stitching together 122 runs for the opening wicket.
In the second innings, Goa folded up for 132 to suffer the innings defeat. Bipin Singh destroyed the Goa second innings with a caree-best haul of five wickets for 46 runs, while Debasis Mohanty and Sanjay Satpathy picked up a brace each. Mohanty reached 200 wickets in First-Class matches, while left-arm spinner Srikant Jena made his First-Class debut for Orissa.
