Sparkling century by captain Sanjay Raul and a half-century each by Subrat Behera and Pravanjan Mullick helped host Orissa secure two points, taking first-innings lead against Saurashtra in their four-day Ranji Trophy Plate Group-B match, which ended in a draw on the last day at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack today.
Put into bat, Saurashtra rode on an unbeaten 95 by opener Kanaia Vaghela to pile up a respectable total of 228. Among successful Orissa bowlers, Deepak Mangaraj captured four wickets for 79 runs, while Debasis Mohanty picked up three for 78.
In reply, Orissa declared at 326 for eight and took a first-innings lead of 98 runs. Raul played a nice sheet-anchor role, hitting a 242-ball 107, which featured 14 boundaries. He stitched together 101 runs for the fourth-wicket partnership with Mullick who slammed 60 with the help of six fours and one six. Subrat Behera and Niranjan Behera consolidated the Orissa innings with knocks of 50 and 40 respectively.
In their second innings, Saurashtra were 206 for six when the match ended in draw. Vaghela once again became top-scorer for the visitors with 93, while captain Shitanshu Kotak contributed 50. Mullick passed 4000 first-class runs in this match.
