Orissa and Services secured one point each in their truncated four-day Ranji Trophy Plate Group-B match, which ended in a draw on the last day at Palam A Ground in Delhi today. First innings of both the teams could not be completed due to insufficient light, caused by heavy fog.
The highlight of the match was an unbeaten century by Orissa opening batsman Shiv Sundar Das, who passed 7,500 runs in first-class matches during his knock of 100 not out. He faced 152 balls and hit 13 boundaries.
Put into bat by Orissa captain Sanjay Raul, Services compiled a respectable total of 268, thanks to a half-century by Charles Thomson. Among successful Orissa bowlers, Debasis Mohanty captured four wickets for 64 runs, while Srikant Jena picked up a career-best three for 55.
In reply, Orissa were 173 for four at stumps on the final day with Niranjan giving company to Das on 25. Orissa batsman Rashmi Ranjan Parida passed 5000 first-class runs during his knock of 24 in this match.
Another player who drew attention in this game was Cuttack-born Odia allrounder Amiya Kumar Mohanty of Services. Making his first-class debut, he scored 40 runs and took one wickets for 31 runs.
