Eight competitors put up notable performance, finishing first in two events each in under-18 and under-20 boys and girls groups on the second and last day of the State Junior Selection Trials at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar today. They are: Atish Kindo, Samir Kumar Lenka, Dilip Naik, Lakchuman Sharma, Marymukta Soreng, Netramani Singh, Madhumita Deb and Subham Jyoti Singh.
The State trials, featuring around 150 boys and girls, were conducted select Odisha squad for the 36th National Junior Athletics Championship, which will be held at Guwahati from 6 to 10 February 2021. Four events were cancelled due to non-participation of athletes.
Olympic bound javelin throwers Neeraj Chopra and Shivpal Singh, who have been training at Kalinga Stadium, spared time grace the state selection trials today. The duo interacted with the budding athletes, inspiring them to give their very best at the trials. The athletes were thrilled to have the two javelin icons amidst them.
