Kalahandi caused an upset in the Inter-District U-16 Boys Cricket Tournament, defeating Balasore by 23 runs in their preliminary league match at Centurion Ground in Jatni today. Priyanmbu Sahu and Adhibas Pattnaik were the architects of the Kalahandi win, bagging five wickets and scoring 52 runs respectively.
Kendrapara, Ganjam, Rourkela, Sambalpur and Koraput posted wins in five other matches of the day. Sujit Jani of Ganjam was the only other batsman to hit a half-century in the day.
On the other hand, bowlers played dominant roles in most of the matches of the day with Harshdeep Singh (Sambalpur), Ratiranjan Barik (Boudh), Adarsh Patnaik (Ganjam), Rehan Khan (Rourkela) and Subham Halan (Koraput) bagging four or more wickets each.
