Names of three outstanding sportspersons of Odisha, including Paralympic and World champion Pramod Bhagat, have been recommended for National sports awards. Among the three, para-badminton star Bhagat has been nominated for Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, which is the highest sporting honour of India.
Odisha hockey stars Birendra Lakra and Amit Rohidas are among 35 sportspersons who have been nominated for the Arjuna Award. Lakra and Rohidas were members of the Indian men hockey team that won an Olympic medal after a gap of 41 years, securing bronze at the Tokyo Olympics.
