Fighting performances by Anshuman Sahoo, Aashirwad Swain and Sushil Barik went in vain as Odisha suffered their first defeat in Cooch Behar Trophy U-19 Men Cricket Tournament, losing to Uttar Pradesh by seven wickets in an Elite Group-A match on the fourth and last day at Deccan Gymkhana Ground in Pune today.
Put into bat by Odisha captain Shresth Singh, Uttar Pradesh rode on a double century by Arjun Bhardwaj to compile an imposing first-innings total of 485. Sushil Barik was most successful Odisha bowler, bagging five wickets for 80 runs.
In reply, Odisha were bowled out for a 162 with Anshuman Sahoo (32) and Aashirwad Swain (32) as notable scorers. Forced to follow on after conceding a huge first-innings lead of 323 runs, Odisha avoided innings defeat by making a healthy second-innings total of 392.
