Maharashtra WGM Divya Deshmukh won the title in the 47th MPL National Woman Chess Championship, scoring eight points out of a possible nine at the International Chess Hall in KIIT University, Bhubaneswar today. This was the maiden Women National title for 16-year-old Divya, who received a cash prize of Rs 5.5 lakh.
Maharashtra WIM Sakshi Chitlange and Andhra Pradesh WIM Priyanka Nutakki finished second and third respectively. Sakshi pocketed Rs 4.5 lakh, while Priyanka became richer by Rs 3.5 lakh. Odisha and PSPB International Master Padmini Rout settled for the seventh position with 6.5 points.
Remaining unbeaten in the championship, Padmini won four games and drew five. She received a cash prize of Rs 1 lakh. Among other leading Odisha players, Smaraki Mohanty (6 points) and WFM Saina Salonika (5.5) finished 17th and 20th respectively.
