Odisha Police long-distance runner Ashok Dandasena and Cuttack shot putter Omkar Prasad Nanda created New State and Meet Records respectively on the opening day of the 68th Odisha State Athletics Championship at KIIT & KISS Athletics Stadium in Bhubaneswar today.
Ashok set the New State Record in mens 5000m run with time of 14:49.4 seconds. He broke the previous record of 15:05.2 seconds, which had been established by TK Tirkey in 1980. Omkar threw the iron ball to a distance of 16.94 meter to eclipse the earlier Meet Record of 14.16 meter in boys U-16 age group.
The four-day championship, featuring around 1500 athletes, is being organised by Odisha Athletics Association (OAA) with the support of Kalinga Institute of Industrial Technology (KIIT) and Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS).
