Kalyan Chaubey elected as new AIFF President

Former India goalkeeper Kalyan Chaubey was elected the new President of the All India Football Federation (AIFF), which conducted its General Elections as per the order of the Supreme Court of India at the Football House in New Delhi today. This is the first time in the history of the Federation that a former player became its President.

Chaubey, a BJP politician, who lost the last parliamentary election for the Krishnanagar seat in West Bengal, was voted the President in an Electoral College of 34 State Associations. While Chaubey polled 33 votes, his only rival in the fray and former India captain Bhaichung Bhutia received one vote.
