Arjuna Award for Deep, KIIT bags Khel Protsahan Puraskar

President Droupadi Murmu handed over the National Sports Awards 2022 in different categories in a special function held at Rashtrapari Bhawan in New Delhi today. Table tennis Olympian Achanta Sharath Kamal was conferred with the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award, the highest sporting honour of the country.

A total of 25 sportspersons were bestowed with the Arjuna Award. Though selected for the Arjuna Award, Odisha woman hockey Olympian Deep Grace Ekka could not receive the honour as she was in Spain to represent India in the FIH Womens Nations Cup starting on December 11.

However, Ekka became the 12th sportsperson and sixth hockey player from Odisha to bag the prestigious Arjuna Award. Odisha bagged another National Sports Award today as Bhubaneswar-based Kalinga Institute of Industrial Training, a Deemed to be University, was conferred with the Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puraskar for providing Encouragement to Sports through Corporate Social Responsibility. KIIT founder Dr Achyuta Samanta received the award on the occasion.
