Vijender settles for boxing bronze

Vijender Kumar``s bid for a historic boxing gold medal ended in heartbreak Beijing today when he lost in the semifinals to settle for the bronze as India completed their Olympic campaign with a record haul of three medals. The 22-year-old Vijender lost his bout in the 75 kg category against Cuba``s Emilio Correa Bayeaux by a margin of three points (8-5). The Bhiwani boxer will, however, have the consolation of being India``s first bronze medal winner in the boxing event having punched his way to the semi-finals. There was more disheartning news in store for the Indians in the evening as the the women``s 4x400 relay team comprising S Geetha, Manjit Kaur, Chitra K Soman and Mandeep Kaur finished seventh in the heats, thus failing to qualify for the finals.
