Indian won the gold medal for the first time in the Women Junior Asia Cup Hockey Tournament, defeating four-time champions Korea 2-1 in the final at Kakamigahara, Gifu Prefecture, Japan today. Japan won the bronze medal match against China by a 2-1 margin. India, Korea and Japan qualified for the FIH Hockey Women Junior World Cup 2023, to be played in Santiago, Chile from November 29 to December 10.
The 18-member Indian team, featuring five players from Odisha, was led by Preeti with Deepika as her deputy. The five Odisha players are: Madhuri Kindo, Anjali Barwa, Jyoti Chhatri, Sujata Kujur and Sunelita Toppo.
