Odisha clinched a glorious double with the State boys and girls teams winning gold medal in the 1st Hockey India Sub-Junior Men & Women East Zone Championships in Ranchi, Jharkhand today. In the finals at Marang Gomke Jaipal Singh Hockey Stadium, Odisha boys beat Jharkhand 3-1, while Odisha girls defeated Jharkhand 2-1.
Odisha boys reached the final, winning all of their five matches at the league stage. They crushed Assam 18-0, Manipur 6-0, Bengal 13-0, Bihar 14-0 and Jharkhand 5-1. Odisha girls qualified for the final, winning four of their league matches and drawing one. They defeated Assam 23-0, Bihar 6-0, Bengal 12-0, Jharkhand 2-1 and drew with Manipur 3-3.
