Odisha made a dazzling start in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 Cricket Tournament, defeating Assam by 11 runs in their opening Group-B match at DY Patil University Ground in Mumbai today. Subhranshu Senapati was the star of the Odisha win, scoring his first T20 century with an unbeaten 119 (54b, 4x10, 6x8).
Put into bat, Odisha compiled an imposing total of 226 for two and then restricted Assam to 215 for nine. Senapati put Odisha in a commanding position with a 199-run partnership for the second wicket with Sandeep Pattanaik, who slammed a 57 ball 87 (8x4, 3x6).
Medium-fast bowler Sunil Roul also played a notable role in the Odisha win, bagging three wickets for 34 runs. Odisha will next meet Himachal Pradesh at Sharad Pawar Cricket Academy in Mumbai tomorrow.
