Odisha suffered a 147-run defeat in their opening Elite Group-D Ranji Trophy match against Baroda at Moti Bagh Stadium in Vadodara today. Chasing a daunting target of 432 for victory, Odisha folded up for 284 on the fourth and last day.
Among notable Odisha performers, captain Shantanu Mishra, Govinda Poddar, Anurag Sarangi and Sandeep Pattnaik scored one half-century each, while pacer Rajesh Mohanty took four wickets in the first innings. Stumper Aashirwad Swain made his first-class debut for Odisha.
For Baroda, Mitesh Patel and Shashwat Rawat hit a century each in first and second innings respectively, while off-spinner Mahesh Pithiya bagged five wickets in the second innings. Odisha will next meet Madhya Pradesh at Shankarpur, Madhya Pradesh from January 12 to 15.
