East Zone bowed out the Vizzy Trophy Inter-Zonal University Cricket Tournament with a stunning one-wicket win over defending champions North Zone in their third and last league match at the ACA Stadium, Guwahati today. Despite the shocking defeat, North Zone entered the final where they will meet South Zone on March 16.
Both North and South won two matches each to book the top places in the league table with eight points apiece. West Zone and East Zone finished third and fourth with one win and four points each.
Shibashis Sahoo and Gaurab Saikia were main architects of the East Zone win today, bagging four wickets and scoring a half-century. Earlier in their first two league matches, East Zone lost to West Zone and South Zone by 195 runs and four wickets respectively.
