Dhenkanal caused an upset in the OCA U-19 Mens Inter-District Cricket Tournament, defeating Cuttack-B by seven wickets in their preliminary league match at Ravenshaw Ground-2 in Cuttack today. Dhenkanal allrounder Prayan Samal was the star of the victory, taking four wickets and hitting an unbeaten 84.
Rourkela, Khordha, Bargarh, Sambalpur and Keonjhar scripted wins in five other matches of the day. Bargarh overcame Paradip by one wicket, thanks to a crucial 81-run partnership for the eighth wicket between Pritish Dash and Mohit Agrawal. Vinay Sharma set up the Bargarh win with a five-wicket haul.
Rohan Kumar was the main architect of the Rourkela win against Balasore, scoring 71 runs and picking up three wickets. A seven-wicket haul by Sumit Mishra and a century by Hemanth Rathi powered Khordha to a 247-run win over Nabarangpur. Keonjhar rode on a century by Prashant Chauhan and fine allround performance by Arpit Mahanta to thrash Puri by 186 runs.
