Bhubaneswar-Khordha District Athletic Association (BKDAA) reigned supreme, bagging 39 out of 52 gold medals on the opening day of the 64th Odisha State Swimming Championship at Aquatic Centre, Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar today.
Swimmers from Kalinga Institute Social Sciences (KISS) and Sambalpur won five gold medals each, while Cuttack claimed three yellow metal. The gold medallists included woman internationals Pratyasa Ray, Shristi Upadhaya, Mannata Mishra and national level swimmers Anmol Mohanty, Anshuman Vashist, Yajat Gupta, Sonia Patel and Anshika Aradhana Sahoo.
Around 450 swimmers, including 180 females from 20 district units joined the four-day championship, which is being jointly organised by Odisha State Swimming Association (OSSA) and the Department of Sports & Youth Services (DSYS), Government of Odisha.
Competitions are being held in sub-junior (Group-III), junior (Group I and II) and senior male and female categories. Swimmers selected from the State championship would represent Odisha in the 40th Sub-junior and 50th Junior National Championship to be held in Bhubaneswar from 6 to 11 August 2024.
DSYS Secretary Bhaskar Jyoti Sarma graced the opening ceremony of the State championship as chief guest and gave away the medals. OSSA president Pradip Kumar Padhee, vice-president Amar Ranjan Mohanty, general secretary Golapmani Mahanta, treasurer Bijaya Dixit, technical head Surendra Kumar Naik and Inspire Institute of Sports technical head Douglas Eager were present on the occasion.
Ashutosh Nayak, Rankanidhi Sethi and Manoj Bonchhor conducted the events with swimming Olympian Sandeep Sejwal (JSW) lending a helping hand.

Manojit Roy (Cuttack). 50m freestyle: 1. Aritro Mallick (BKDAA), 2. Jagjit Pradhan (BKDAA), 3. Nabin Sharma (BKDAA). 4x100m medley: 1. BKDAA (Nabin Sharma, Yajat Gupta, Ayush Aryaman Badu, Aritro Mallick), 2. Cuttack (Anmol Mohanty, Rootendu Pati, Anshuman Vashist, Manojit Roy), 3. Sambalpur (Piyush Thakur, Svisa Barik, Saswat Swarup Beriha, Anshuman Merli). 200m butterfly: 1. Anshuman Vashist (Cuttack), 2. Subasis Tripathy (BKDAA), 3. Manojit Roy (Cuttack). 200m breaststroke: 1. Yajat Gupta (BKDAA), 2. Swastik Mahakur (Sambalpur), 3. Saswat Mahakur (Sambalpur). 200m medley: 1. Nabin Sharma (BKDAA), 2. Yajat Gupta (BKDAA), 3.
