When it comes to promoting sports at grassroots level, the exemplary achievements and contributions of JM Sports Academy (JMSA), a Bhubaneswar-based private gymnastics training centre, deserves a lot of applause. The role of the academy assumes added significance, considering the fact that it is being run by women gymnastics enthusiast-turned-national judge Mirarani Das with the support of her husband Jashobanta Das.
The couple started the academy at a rented hall in August 2013 and changed the home seven times before bringing up their own in 2018 at Semaigadia in Mancheswar. They sold their flat to take land on lease and spent around Rs 1 crore to build infra over an area of 14,000 sqft, including a 5000 sqft training hall, and purchase equipment.
“I love gymnastics and to help my daughter JM Ritika Das become a gymnast started acquiring knowledge about the sport. I completed judging courses in artistic and rhythmic gymnastics and even manufactured equipment with my own hands, using wood and iron. While grooming our daughter, we converted our home gym into a full-fledged academy so that we can share the benefits with other youngsters,” recalls Mira.
