The joy of starting campaign with an innings victory against Uttarakhand proved short-lived for Odisha as they suffered an innings and 109-run defeat against Maharashtra in their second match of the Col CK Nayudu Trophy U-23 Men Cricket Championship, held at Vikash Ground in Bargarh, Odisha from 20 to 23 October 2024.
In reply to an imposing first-innings total of 393 by Maharashtra, host Odisha made 218 in the first innings to concede a lead of 175 runs. Forced to follow on, Odisha were skittled out for 66 in their second innings. The innings victory gave Maharashtra 13 points, while Odisha settled with four points.
H Kate was the star of the Maharashtra win, scoring 159 runs and picking up three wickets in the first innings of respective sides. Among Odisha players, who put up notable performances, Ayush Barik bagged three wickets for 76 runs and Sujal Singh hit a valiant 65 in the first innings. Odisha will next meet Kerala in Wayanad from October 27 to 30.
