Ranji Trophy: Odisha beat Maharashtra; Post first win

Odisha Senior Men Cricket Team registered first win in the ongoing Ranji Trophy Championship, defeating Maharashtra by three wickets on the penultimate day of their four-day Elite Group-A match at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack today. The win fetched Odisha six points.

In their first four matches, Odisha suffered innings defeats against Baroda and Mumbai, and held Jammu & Kashmir to a draw. The first match against Tripura was abandoned without a ball bowled. Odisha will next play Meghalaya at MCA Cricket Ground in Shillong from 23 to 26 January 2025.

Captain Govinda Poddar, spin bowler Sumit Sharma and opening batter Swastik Samal played major roles for Odisha in their win over Maharashtra. Allrounder Poddar bagged a match haul of six wickets for 52 and top-scored with 48 in the second innings. He was awarded as the Player of the Match.
