Eminent chess coach Satya Ranjan Patnaik was today elected as the new president of All Odisha Chess Association (AOCA) for a three-year term (2025-2028), while Debabrata Bhatta was re-elected as the secretary. Elections for a total of nine posts were held at Wonder World Water Park in Puri with advocate Pramod Kumar Pradhan as Election Officer.
Patnaik, who represents Cuttack District Chess Association, defeated industrialist-cum-politician Abinash Samal (Angul) by a margin of five votes (15-10). The contest for the post of secretary was a stiff affair with Bhatta (Dhenkanal) edging out Swayangsu Satyakam, a former chess player and elder brother of International Master Swayangsu Satyapragyan, 13-12. This will be the third term for Bhatta as secretary.
