Odisha women para-athletics stars Suchitra Parida and Jayanti Behera made the State and the country proud, bagging one gold and one bronze medal respectively in the World Para Athletics (WPA) Grand Prix, which was held at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in New Delhi from 11 to 13 March 2025.
Suchitra grabbed the gold in womens javelin throw (F55 category) with an effort of 15.93 metres today, while Jayanti secured the bronze in womens 100m sprint (T47 category), clocking 13.62 seconds earlier on March 11.
The achievements of Suchitra and Jayanti carried added significance as both the para athletes encountered unexpected impediments before winning respective medals. Suchitra faced disqualification as the height of her wheelchair was found to be a little more than the specified level.
