In a thrilling finale to the 18th AICFB National Premier Chess Championship for the Visually Challenged, Darpan Irani (Gujarat) was crowned as the champion, edging past multiple-time champion Kishan Gangolli on a better tie-break score after both finished with 7.5 points at Sai International Residential School in Cuttack, Odisha today.
The championship saw intense competition, with the top four boards producing fiercely contested games in the final round. The most dramatic battle unfolded between overnight leader Aryan Joshi and Odisha icon Soundarya Kumar Pradhan. Although Soundarya struggled in the middlegame, the inaccurate plan of Aryan allowed Soundarya to seize control.
