Gymnastics Federation of India (GFI) has appointed Odisha star gymnast Rakesh Kumar Patra as the National coach for men’s artistic gymnastics. According to Odisha Gymnastics Association secretary Ashok Kumar Sahoo, a gymnast from Odisha has been honored with this responsibility for the first time ever.
Known as a master of rings, 33-year-old Patra confirmed that the GFI has appointed him as National coach for two years. “I am grateful to the GFI for giving me this responsibility and I will try my best to make India proud in the new role,” said Patra from Pune where he is attending the Artistic Gymnastics National Championships 2025-26.
“As the National coach, I will try to fulfill the dreams of my career as a gymnast and win medals for the country at major international competitions,” added Patra, who hails from Puri.
