Odisha Girls won the gold medal in the hockey competition of the 7th Khelo India Youth Games (KIYG), edging out Jharkhand 3-1, via penalty shoot out after play in the regulation time of the hard-fought final ended in 1-1 draw at Rajgir Sports Complex in Rajgir, Bihar today. But the Odisha boys hockey team narrowly missed the bronze medal as they went down fighting 3-4 to Punjab in the 3rd/4th-place match earlier in the day.
Captain Drupati Naik played an instrumental role in the triumph of the Odisha girls team, scoring twice in the shootout of the title clash. She also scored once in the semifinals to lead Odisha to 2-1 win against Madhya Pradesh.
