Odisha got off to a winning start in the BCCI Mens U-23 State A Trophy One-Day Tournament, trouncing Goa by seven wickets in their Elite Group-B match at GSFC Cricket Ground in Vadodara today. Two batters and two bowlers played important roles in the thumping win, which fetched Odisha four points.
Opting to field after winning the toss, Odisha bowled out Goa for 166 in 36.4 overs. Left-arm spinner Sayed Tufayl Ahmad was the most successful Odisha bowler, bagging four wickets for nine runs. He formed a deadly combination with medium-pacer Ashutosh Chhuria, who claimed three wickets for 42 runs.
Batters complimented the good work of the bowlers as Odisha rode on a half-century each by captain Om T Munde and his opening partner Panakala Sasanka to overhaul the target in 28.5 overs, losing three wickets in the process. Odisha will next meet Jammu & Kashmir at Darshanam Sports & Education Academy in Vadodara on November 11.
