Stars descend for Challenger Series

A large group of stars players arrived in Bhubaneswar today to participate in the NKP Salve Challenger Trophy Tournament to be held at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack from October 23 to 26. Among them, captains of the three sides — Yuvraj Singh (India Blue), S Badrinath (India Red), Mohammad Kaif (India Green) — batsmen Rohit Sharma, Robin Uthappa, Irfan Pathan, his brother Irfan Pathan, Suresh Raina, leg-spinner Piyush Chawla and stumper Parthiv Patel drew wide attention. The players were taken to hotel Mayfair Lagoon, where traditional reception was accorded to them. According to Orissa Cricket Association sources, the three teams will have nets at Barabati Stadium on Wednesday morning. The Challenger Series will be a challenge for discards and hopefuls to prove their mettle and stake claims for inclusion in the National side for the one-day series against England next month. The four-match day-night series, will also serve as a dress reharsal for fifth India-England one-dayer to be played at Barabati on November 26.
