Orissa wicket-keeper Sukhbinder Singh and allrounder Niranjan Behera scored a century and a half-century respectively on First-Class debut to light-up truncated four-day Ranji Trophy Elite Group-B match, which ended in a draw against Uttar Pradesh on the last day at KD Singh Babu Stadium in Lucknow today.
No team could secure a point from the ill-fated match as first innings of both the innings could not be completed. Bad weather played spoil sport as no play was possible on the final day. Similarly, play was possible only for 36 minutes on the third day.
Opting to bat after captain Rashmi Ranjan Parida won the toss, Orissa compiled a respectable total of 245, thanks to patient knock of 102 (341 balls, 4x4) by Sukhbinder Singh and 51 by Niranjan Behera. Ashish Winston Zaidi was the most successful bowler for Uttar Pradesh, bagging six wickets for 97 runs.
In reply, Uttar Pradesh were 180 for six on the penultimate day before bad weather forced a premature end of the match. Rizwan Shamshad was the top-scorer for Uttar Pradesh with 82, while Bipin Singh, Ajay Barik and Pravanjan Mullick picked up two wickets each for Orissa.
