U-19 Cricket: Rourkela, Jharsuguda make winning start

Strong teams Rourkela and Jharsuguda started campaign on winning note in the OCA Inter-District U-19 Boys Cricket Tournament at different grounds in Cuttack today. Rourkela rode on fine allround performance by Hemanta Nayak to vanquish Khurda by seven wickets at DRIEMS Ground in Tangi. Nayak bagged three wickets and hit an attractive 94.

Dhananjay Yadav slammed a sparkling 90 to power Jharsuguda to a narrow 12-run win over Keonjhar at Bidanasi Ground. KIIT scripted a 17-run win over Sundargarh, thanks to impressive allround performance by Gourish Patra who scored a half-century and captured three wickets.

Ganjam beat Rayagada by 110 runs, Nayagarh got the better of Boudh by five wickets and Paradip prevailed over Malkangiri by 103 runs in three other preliminary league matches of the day. The six matches of the day produced as many as 13 fifties and four hauls of four or more wickets.
