Hockey may have brought Odisha national and international fame, but the governance of the sport inside the state has kicked up a major controversy. With the formation of an Adhoc Committee to manage the sport in Odisha, the existence of Hockey Odisha, the apex governing body of the state, has come under serious threat.
According to a press release, issued today by Department of Sportgs & Youth Services (DSYS), Government of Odisha, hockey Olympian Dilip Tirkey has been unanimously appointed as the Chairman of the newly formed Adhoc Committee at the 1st meeting convened virtually today.
“The five-member Adhoc Committee will manage the operations and promotion of hockey across Odisha and ensure the betterment of players,’’ the release said. Other members of the committee include, Odisha Olympic Association representative Adhip Das, Hockey India Vice-President Bhola Nath Singh, DSYS Deputy Secretary Shailendra Jena and Under Secretary Rajendra Pani. Shailendra Jena has been made the Member Convener of the Committee.
