Odisha Government today made Indian hockey rich by felicitating players and support staff of both the National men and women teams for scripting history with their brilliant performance at the Tokyo Olympics. In a special function held in Bhubaneswar, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik not only handed over a number of cash awards but also announced the extention of sponsorship for the Indian hockey teams for another 10 more years.
Odisha Government had signed a Rs 100 crore deal with Hockey India in 2018 to sponsor both the National men and women teams for a period of five years. The extention of the deal means the sponsorship will continute till 2033 during which the Olympic Games will be held thrice.
Indian men team won an Olympic medal after a gap of 41 years, bagging bronze medal in Tokyo, while the women team reached for the first time before finishing fourth. Chief Minister felicitated players of both the men and women teams with cash was award of Rs 10 lakh and the support staff Rs 5 lakhs each.
