Odisha made a winning start in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy T20 Cricket Tournament, trouncing enexperienced Sikkim by nine wicketsss in their opening Elite Group-E match at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow today.
Electing to bat, Sikkim made a modest total of 100 for six in the stipulated 20 overs. Left-arm spinner Jayanta Behera was most successful Odisha bowler, taking two wickets for 19 runs. In reply, Odisha overhauled the target in 15.2 overs, losing one wicket in the process.
Four players made their T20 debut for Odisha in this match. They were Ashirwad Swain, Mushtaq Beg, Rakesh Pattnaik and Sameer Mohanty. Among them, stumper Ashirwad Swain effected two stumpings and hit a 32-ball 30 as an opening batter.
