Netherlands and England became the first two teams to qualify for the quarterfinals of the 15th FIH Mens Hockey World Cup as they emerged toppers in Pool C and D respectively with emphatic wins at Kalinga Stadium in Bhubaneswar today.
But host India failed to make it to the last-eight stage directly as they finished second in Pool D despite posting a hard-earned 4-2 win over debutants Wales. India will face New Zealand in the crossover for a spot in the quarterfinals.
Netherlands created history by registering the biggest ever win at a Mens Hockey World Cup by trouncing Chile 14-0 in their third and last match in Pool C. Netherlands scored their 13th goal in the 48th minute to go past the 12-0 win of Australia against South Africa during the 2010 edition. The record-breaking goal was scored by Teun Beins.
