Defending champions India became the most successful nation in the Mens Junior (U-21) Asia Cup Hockey Tournament by emerging champions for the fourth time with 2-1 win over Pakistan in the final of the ninth edition at Sultan Qaboos Youth Complex for Culture and Entertainment in Salalah, Oman today.
Angad Bir Singh and Araijeet Singh Hundal scored the two goals for India, while Basharat Ali reduced the margin for Pakistan. India had previously won the title in 2004, 2008 and 2015 while Pakistan had emerged champions in 1988, 1992, 1996.
Korea won the bronze medal, defeating Malaysia by a 2-1 margin. India, Pakistan, Korea and Malaysia have qualified for the 13th FIH Hockey Mens Junior World Cup, scheduled to be held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia from 5 to 16 December 2023.
