A gutsy Puducherry, led by their captain-cum-stumper KB Arun Karthick, denied host Odisha their second successive win as the Elite Group-D Ranji Trophy match between the two sides ended in a draw at Barabati Stadium, Cuttack today. But Odisha gained three points by taking first-innings lead, while Puducherry settled with one point.
Arun Karthick was the star of the match, hitting a century in the first innings and an unbeaten 58 in the second. Chasing a victory target of 240, Puducherry were in deep trouble, losing two wickets without any run on the board. But a half-century each by Paras Ratnaparkhe and Arun Karthik helped them to escape defeat, making 175 for eight in the second innings when the match ended in a draw.
For hosts Odisha, allrounder Govinda Poddar was the most impressive performer, scoring 80, 46 in his two innings and taking two wickets for 16 runs. Among other notable Odisha performers, Biplab Samantray was the top scorer in the first innings with a 205-ball 82 and Rajesh Mohanty completed his 100 wickets in first-class cricket.
