Odisha U-17 men and women teams bagged gold and silver medals respectively in the 2nd Hockey India Sub-junior East Zone Championships, which concluded at the Maulana Md Tayabullah Hockey Stadium in Guwahati, Assam today. Both the final matches were thrilling affairs with shootout deciding the winners.
Odisha sub-junior men team fought back from 0-2 down to beat Jharkhand 4-3 in shootout after the regulation time of the final match ended in 6-6 draw. But Odisha lost the sub-junior women final 0-3 in shootout against Jharkhand after holding their opponents to a 1-1 draw in the regulation time. Manipur claimed the bronze medal in both the categories.
Odisha forwards Mandeep Kerketta and Priyanka Minz emerged as the top scorers of the tournament in sub-junior men and women categories respectively with 16 and 10 goals to their names.
