Senior Women One-Day Trophy: Odisha go down to Assam

Odisha made a disappointing start in the Senior Women One-Day Trophy Cricket Tournament as they lost to Assam by six wickets in their first Group-B match at ADSA Railways Cricket Ground in Ahmedabad, Gujarat today. Defensive batting and weak bowling were the main reasons for Odisha defeat.

Put into bat, Odisha compiled a healthy total of 230 for six. But Assam overhauled the target comfortably, losing four wickets in the process. Opening batter Madhuri Meheta and captain Sushree Divyadarshini put up impressive performances for Odisha, but the efforts of the duo proved in vain.

Madhuri hit a 131-ball 82 with the help of eight boundaries. Sushree scored a 33-ball 41 and picked up two wickets for 27 runs. Monikha Das was the main architect of the Assam win, scoring a 56-ball 76 and bagging two wickets for 31 runs. She was adjudged as the Player of the Match. Odisha will next meet Uttarakhand at Gujarat College Ground in Ahmedabad on December 6.
