The fact that public involvement and support play a vital role in the popularisation and development of sports, governing bodies of across sports disciplines must take necessary steps to create as much interest as possible among the general public. Needless to say that public interest will be created if sports bodies disseminate information about sports activities and achievements.
But some State-level sports organisations in Odisha do not bother to cater to this basic need. Let alone disclosing information on their own platform, they also ignore requests to share it with the media. Even public-interest information such as competition results and players’ list of State teams are kept hidden by these bodies.
Due to this dishonest practice, names of players and their hard-earned achievements go unnoticed. Let us not forget that a sportsperson invests a lot of effort, time and money to represent his/her district or state team. Of course, achieving success in State and National championships brings cash prizes and trophies.
