Woman swimming international Pratyasha Ray added one more medal to the tally of host Odisha, winning the 200m breaststroke bronze with a time of 2:24.77 on the fourth day of the 78th Senior National Aquatic Championship at the Aquatic Centre in Kalinga Stadium, Bhubaneswar today.
Karnataka duo of Vihitha Nayana Loganathan (2:21.85) and Naisha (2:22.95) bagged the gold and silver medals respectively. This was the first individual and second overall medal for Pratyasa in the ongoing National championship. She was part of the Odisha team that won the silver medal in womens 4x100 medley relay yesterday.
The bronze by Pratyasa was the fourth medal for Odisha, which secured one gold, one silver and one bronze earlier in the first three days. Shristi Upadhaya claimed the lone gold in womens 100m butterfly on the opening day and one bronze in 200m butterfly on the third day.
Shristi was also part of the silver-medal winning Odisha 4x100 medley relay team that featured Mannata Mishra and Divyanka Dibyajyoti Pradhan as the other two members. Meanwhile, four new National Records were shattered on the penultimate day of the five-day championship.
Rishab Anupam Das (Maharashtra) broke the National record in 200m backstroke with a timing of 2:00.65, while B Benediction Rohit (Tamil Nadu) created a new National record, clocking 24.11 seconds in mens 50m butterfly event.
Olympian Dhinidhi Desinghu (Karnataka) eclipsed the National record in womens 100m freestyle with a timing of 56.78 seconds. Tamil Madu mens 4x100 freestyle relay team established a new National record, clocking 3:26.26.
Karnataka further consolidated its position at the top of the medal tally with a total of 63 medals, which include 14 gold, 9 silver and 13 bronze, followed by Tamil Nadu (8 gold, 4 silver, 2 bronze) and Maharashtra (3 gold, 5 silver, 4 bronze) with 14 and 12 medals respectively.
