Orissa continued their domination over Saurashtra, trouncing the latter by an innings and 10 runs on the last day of their four-day Ranji Trophy Plate Group-A match at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack today. This was third win and first by innings margin for Orissa in four matches against Saurashtra.
Overall, this was 48th win and 22nd by innings margin in a total of 206 matches for Orissa in Ranji Trophy. It was real team effort with most of the Orissa players making notable contributions for the victory. In-form Pravanjan Mullick stood out in batting, hitting the only half century for Orissa.
In bowling, captain Debasis Mohanty was most successful with a match haul of seven wickets for 24 runs. He was well supported by spinners Sanjay Satpathy and Niranjan Behera with six and five wickets in the match respectively. Mohanty also reached 200 Ranji Trophy wickets in this match.
Opting to bat, Saurashtra were bowled out for 198. In reply, Orissa compiled 300 to take a lead of 112 runs. Mullick was the top scorer with 71 runs (150 balls, 4x4, 2x6). Saurashtra suffered the innings defeat as they folded up for 92 in the second innings, while needing 113 to force Orissa bat again.
